Tour de France - The Rules Explained. Some teams will focus on the general classification Yellow Jersey, whereas others will focus on winning sprints for The Green or the King of the Mountains Spotted Jersey. There are many rules, both spoken and unspoken, as teams stand to gain a lot from cooperation and respect.

A time trial bike's head tube is also much shorter, as a rule. It's 96mm on a 52cm Pinarello Bolide F compared with 123mm on an 53cm Dogma F. The front end of most high-end time trial bikes is kept low by a stem that is integrated into the frame. Again, the Pinarello Bolide F (above) is a good example, as is the Colnago TT1 (below).

The Tour de France is an annual bike race that goes for three weeks. It takes place mainly in France, but often traverses into other countries. For example, this year's race starts in Belgium.

Framesets, wheels, handlebars, time trial bar extensions, clothing and helmets (standard and TT) must all be registered prior to the start of each race - 2nd June for the Tour de France and 17th June for Tour de France Femmes, and must be made available to purchase no later than 12 months after their first use in competition.
